How long do you expect to live? Statistics indicate that life expectancy is currently rising; with the average life expectancy in this day and age being 80. This is 8 years higher than 40 years ago in the 1970's!
Perhaps we should consider ourselves fortunate? At the beginning of the 20th century a person was only expected to live until they were 45. A little further back (1750) and life expectancy was only 31; this had remained relatively unchanged since the Middle Ages. Huge advances in public Health and medicine, not to mention improvement in living conditions facilitated most of the change.
