Description

Australian Nathan Tasker has the kind of voice that grabs you immediately. His honest and probing lyrics keep you listening – he is a Christian singer-songwriter who is able to speak spiritual ideas to people wherever they may be. His mission is to use the creative arts to introduce Christ to all nations.
A Look Inside shows the inner workings of a man constantly amazed at the inspiring God he serves and the Kingdom of God. “My aim is to share a beautiful and believable Jesus,” says Nathan. “I want people to experience the depth and wonderful recklessness of his love, that they may walk with Him through this life and the next.” “In this album I’m saying ‘come and have a look at how Jesus works in me. Look past my story and see His story, see Jesus inside.’ This has to be some of the most personal music I have ever written. It invites one to take a look inside my heart, to witness my struggles and see the ways in which I grow as a man of God.”

Musically, Nathan has been influenced by the music of Michael Card and has been mentored by him during his frequent trips to Nashville. The CD includes a bonus live disk featuring The Drive Thru Song.

Nathan Tasker, along with producer Michael McGlynn has produced a fine album with many touching moments. Some songs remind me a little of some of the more recent Michael W. Smith releases, in the song "He Has Washed Us" (taken from an Isaac Newton Hymnbook) particularly. However it is not Michael W. who Nathan identifies with in his own writing, instead a different Michael is credited with being his influence, Michael Card.

There are some deep and challenging lyrics here, one that I was particularly touched by is "I Was There" which talks about the disciples and people's reaction to what happened when Jesus was being taken in the garden. He says "I would like to if I was there" I would have stayed awake, I could have been a louder voice, yet he resigns himself to the idea that in reality he would have been exactly the same as everyone else.

It is track 9 where we find the Michael Card influence coming to the fore as he covers Card's "The Final Word" which compliments the other tracks on this album. The last song on the album confirms his talent as singer, songwriter and storyteller which is probably second only to Mr Card himself!
